About other suns

Other Suns is a study of fashion and aesthetics in black culture.

It is a social and cultural exploration of the blossoming of a new people.

When I read The Warmth of Other Suns, by Isabel Wilkerson, I was inspired by her retelling of the dreams that moved black Americans forward during the Great Migration and by their courage to create the life they envisioned, to be an active player and not a passive bystander.

Other Suns is a documentation of those visions manifesting, in real time—and of how the culture we’ve created impacts our daily lives and contributes to the artistic and socio-political worlds at large.

Other Suns is a refuge. It’s where black life, in its many aesthetic variations, is celebrated, respected, and shared.

Lead them from temptation, make them royalty/
All the things we’re facin’ makes us question it/
Lead us to salvation, pour that oil please/
That’s how we become kings and queens.
